Synthesis from Musical Instrument Character Maps

چکیده
A new method is introduced for encapsulating the properties of a musical instrument for synthesis that is realistic both in terms of sound quality and responsiveness. Sound quality is achieved using analysissynthesis techniques for capturing and reproducing the sounds of an instrument from actual recordings. The concept of the Musical Instrument Character Map (MICMap) is introduced as the basis for achieving

Full-Band Quasi-Harmonic Analysis and Synthesis of Musical Instrument Sounds with Adaptive Sinusoids
Sinusoids are widely used to represent the oscillatory modes of musical instrument sounds in both analysis and synthesis. However, musical instrument sounds feature transients and instrumental noise that are poorly modeled with quasi-stationary sinusoids, requiring spectral decomposition and further dedicated modeling. In this work, we propose a full-band representation that fits sinusoids acro...
متن کاملPhonetic-based Mappings in Voice-Driven Sound Synthesis
In voice-driven sound synthesis applications, phonetics convey musical information that might be related to the sound of an imitated musical instrument. Our initial hypothesis is that phonetics are userand instrumentdependent, but they remain constant for a single subject and instrument. Hence, a user-adapted system is proposed, where mappings depend on how subjects performs musical articulatio...
متن کاملThe Case for Musical Instrument Training in Cerebral Palsy for Neurorehabilitation
Recent imaging studies in cerebral palsy (CP) have described several brain structural changes, functional alterations, and neuroplastic processes that take place after brain injury during early development. These changes affect motor pathways as well as sensorimotor networks. Several of these changes correlate with behavioral measures of motor and sensory disability. It is now widely acknowledg...
متن کاملThe Significance of the Non-Harmonic "Noise" Versis the Harmonic Series for Musical Instrument Recognition
Sound produced by Musical instruments with definite pitch consists of the Harmonic Series and the nonharmonic Residual. It is common to treat the Harmonic Series as the main characteristic of the timbre of pitched musical instruments. But does the Harmonic Series indeed contain the complete information required for discriminating among different musical instruments? Could the non-harmonic Resid...
متن کاملAffective Sound Synthesis: Considerations in Designing Emotionally‐Engaging Timbres for Computer Music
In this paper, we examine the essential role of instrument timbre in communicating and eliciting emotion in music, and consider how this knowledge can inform the design process of sound synthesis towards achieving maximum expression. In the composition and performance of acoustic music, timbres are carefully chosen to capture and communicate the emotional undercurrent of the musical material. I...
